Hallmark Pony Express Rider Keepsake Ornament

The following message was sent by a New Found Pony Express Junkie, Eric West, from Independence, MO, August 1998:

Hallmark Pony Express Rider I've lived in Independence, MO for 32 or my 33 years and have not taken the advantage I should about learning the history. I work for Hallmark Cards, Inc. and this past weekend I was a volunteer working at Hallmark's Keepsake Collector's Club 25th Anniversary convention being held here in Kansas City. I was assigned the responsibility of being an Artist Escort for a Keepsake Ornament artist by the name of Duane Unruh. One of the ornaments that Duane sculpted this year is Hallmark's "Pony Express Rider" which is the first in the Old West series. I spent 8 hours with Duane at the event and got into a in depth conversation of his love for the history of the Pony Express. He told me how he researched background material to be best prepared to sculpt the ornament. If you have a chance to get to a Hallmark store, look for the bronze statue ornament. It was a hit at the show and is beautiful.

After spending the day with Duane talking about the Pony Express I had to look up information about this part of our history. Your site was the first to pull up and I'm glad it did. You certainly have done your homework and have a very comprehensive site. My hat off to you.

Sculpted by Duane Unruh My next step in learning more about the Pony Express is to make the hour long trip up north to St. Joseph to visit the museum. I'm very excited about this field trip.

The cost of the ornament is $13.95.

PLEASE NOTE: The Pony Express Home Station has NO affiliation with Hallmark Cards, I think it is just a neat collectable.
